The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, has placed the responsibility for the failure of some model market projects designed to organize street vendors on local authorities, confirming that the ministry had provided the necessary financial and technical support. However, the success of these initiatives depended on the readiness of the proposals and plans submitted by each local authority.
In response to questions from members of the House of Representatives during Monday’s oral questions session, Mezzour explained that solving this issue requires collective cooperation, highlighting the ministry’s full readiness to support any local authority that presents a practical program aimed at integrating street vendors into organized spaces, thus contributing to improving their economic conditions and preserving their dignity.
The minister added that several local authorities had benefited from financial and technical support to establish model markets, with some of these authorities achieving notable successes, while others struggled to implement the initiative effectively.
In this context, Mezzour emphasized that the ministry would continue to support authorities that present realistic programs, pointing out that social support and integration would be an essential part of these initiatives to ensure that street vendors become a part of these organized markets.
