95 Million Dirhams Allocated for 5 New Automotive Trade Zones in the Fez-Meknes Region

Fez-Meknes: A financial package of 95 million dirhams has been earmarked for the second phase of the regional program to establish zones for automotive activities and trades in five provinces within the Fez-Meknes region. This allocation comes under a specific agreement recently signed between several partners.

The program, primarily funded by the Fez-Meknes Regional Council (80.75 million dirhams) and the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social Economy, and Solidarity (14.25 million dirhams), aims to organize the automotive trade sector and consolidate artisans in designated areas within the provinces of El Hajeb (Ain Taoujdat), Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Taounate, and Taza.

This second phase of the program, overseen by Al Omrane Fez-Meknes as the delegated project owner, seeks to gather all artisans currently operating in the alleys of the targeted cities – including mechanics, panel beaters, painters, welders, and others – within equipped professional spaces. This consolidation is expected to contribute to reducing pollution and noise, improving the urban landscape, and mitigating conflicts between artisans and residents.

The project falls under the second strategic axis (“Sustained Growth of Economic Systems and Promotion of Employment”) of the Fez-Meknes Regional Development Program 2022-2027 and complements the first phase, which covered the prefectures of Fez and Meknes and the provinces of Boulemane and Ifrane. To ensure effective monitoring and support, governance mechanisms have been established, including a steering committee chaired by the Wali of the region, a regional technical committee, and provincial committees at the level of each concerned province.

The agreement was signed by the relevant ministry and the Regional Council, as well as the Wilaya of the Fez-Meknes region, the governorates of the five targeted provinces, the Fez-Meknes Regional Investment Center, and Al Omrane Fez-Meknes. The financial contributions are scheduled to be transferred over the years 2025 to 2027 to cover the costs of studies and works related to the creation of these five new automotive trade zones.
