The Moroccan government has issued an official decree to expropriate a plot of land located in the Assa-Zag province, within the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, for the benefit of the Ministry Delegate to the Head of Government in Charge of the National Defense Administration. This decision aims to establish a permanent military installation for the Royal Armed Forces in the area.
According to the documents attached to the decree, the land to be expropriated covers an area of 32 hectares and 84 ares. The land, originally owned by private individuals, has been designated for the construction of a fixed operational base for the Royal Armed Forces.
This expropriation is based on the law on expropriation for public utility issued in 1918. The Ministry of National Defense has been entrusted with the implementation of this project.
The geographical location of the site, close to the southern regions, gives this military installation significant strategic importance. Although the decree does not specify the nature of the facilities to be built, informed sources suggest the possibility of establishing a logistics center and an advanced training and observation area.
The Assa-Zag region has been hosting a military presence of the Royal Armed Forces for several decades, in the context of monitoring the southern regions of Morocco. This decision aims to strengthen this presence by establishing a permanent and autonomously equipped facility.
The owners of the expropriated land will be compensated in accordance with applicable laws. The amount of compensation has not yet been determined by the competent authorities.
