General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) Contributes to Dismantling a Serious Terrorist Threat in Spain

As part of the close security cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and Spain in the fight against terrorism, the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) successfully provided critical intelligence to the Spanish Civil Guard, leading to the arrest of a radicalized individual in the city of Córdoba who posed a serious threat to public security.

Thanks to the proactive monitoring carried out by the DGST, the identity of the suspect, who was involved in an advanced radicalization process, was identified. Investigations revealed that the arrested individual was highly active in the digital space, consuming violent propaganda materials from the terrorist organization ISIS and contributing to the group’s media strategy, which relies on inciting followers through decentralized means.

Based on the precise information provided by the DGST, Spanish authorities were able to track the suspect’s movements and assess the level of threat he posed, prompting them to take immediate action to arrest him and prevent any potential risk to Spanish and European national security.

Preliminary evidence indicated that the suspect was heavily consuming highly violent terrorist content, placing him high on the security watchlist.

Following the arrest, the suspect underwent a security investigation, during which digital and material evidence found in his possession was analyzed. The Spanish judicial authorities subsequently decided to place him in pre-trial detention pending further investigations into his potential network of connections with terrorist organizations.

This operation highlights the leading role played by the DGST in addressing cross-border terrorist threats through a proactive approach based on the exchange of accurate information with international security partners.

The success of this operation underscores the importance of Moroccan-Spanish cooperation in neutralizing terrorist risks and enhancing regional and international security, particularly in light of the growing threats associated with violent extremism and digital recruitment by terrorist organizations.
