Ministry of Education Issues Memo to Prevent Measles Spread in Schools

In response to the worsening national epidemic and the rising cases of measles, including critical cases and fatalities, the Ministry of Education issued a memo on Friday, January 31, 2025, aimed at preventing the spread of the disease in schools. The memo underscores the importance of protecting children from this highly contagious disease, particularly within educational institutions, which are environments conducive to outbreaks due to the concentration of people.

The memo calls for coordination with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to ensure the completion of the measles vaccination process in schools starting Monday, February 3, 2025. It stresses the need for a suitable environment for vaccination, including providing appropriate rooms, organizing student movement to avoid overcrowding, and assigning administrative and teaching staff to support medical teams in these operations.

Additionally, the memo stipulates that if measles cases are identified in any school, affected students will be excluded from the school based on medical examination results. Schools identified as epidemic hotspots will be closed, following the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

To ensure the continuity of education, alternative methods for in-person learning will be provided for infected students or those who have not received the vaccine. These students will have the option of remote learning in accordance with the provisions of Decree 2.20.474.

These measures are part of a nationwide response to combat the measles outbreak and ensure the safe and healthy continuation of education for all students.
