Morocco: Towards a Postponement of the Third School Holidays?

The parliamentary group of the PJD (Justice and Development Party) has urged Mohamed Saad Berrada, the Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, to postpone the third school holidays of the academic year to coincide with Eid al-Fitr.

This request came in a correspondence signed by the group’s president, Abdellah Bouanou, who pointed out that Ministerial Decree No. 016.24, issued on July 3, 2024, sets the third school holidays from March 16 to March 23, 2025, while the Eid al-Fitr holidays are scheduled from 29 Ramadan to 2 Shawwal 1446.

Bouanou explained that only one week separates the two holiday periods and proposed that the minister delay the third school holidays by one week.

The parliamentary group president emphasized that this decision would allow students across all levels, as well as teaching staff, to celebrate Eid al-Fitr under better conditions.

It is worth noting that students and educational and administrative staff in the national education sector are entitled to school holidays according to the academic calendar. The ministry has scheduled a holiday period after every seven weeks of study, taking into account preparation periods for continuous assessments and other exams.

According to the 2024-2025 academic calendar, the third school holidays are set to take place from Sunday, March 16, to Sunday, March 23, totaling 8 days.

The fourth holidays will be from Sunday, May 4, to Sunday, May 11.
