Starlink, the satellite internet provider owned by Elon Musk, has begun negotiations with Moroccan authorities to deploy its satellites over the Sahara.
According to Africa Intelligence, talks between Moroccan authorities and Starlink started in the summer of 2024 and deepened further during the Qatar-Africa Business Forum held in Marrakech in November 2024. Starlink’s Vice President, Lauren Dreyer, who attended the event, led the negotiations with representatives of the Kingdom.
The deployment of the American giant in the Moroccan Sahara notably depends on the approval of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), it was reported.
