The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced a continuous decline in the number of new measles cases for the fifth consecutive week, as part of ongoing nationwide efforts to limit the spread of this viral disease.
Between February 24 and March 2, 2025, the number of cases dropped by 13%, with 2,481 cases recorded, adding to the 14.9% decline observed the previous week, which saw 2,863 reported cases, according to a statement from the ministry.
This notable improvement is the result of significant efforts by healthcare professionals across all regions of the Kingdom, effective coordination among all stakeholders, and increased citizen participation in catch-up vaccination campaigns as part of the national campaign to verify vaccination status.
To consolidate these gains, it has been decided to extend the national vaccination campaign until March 28 to ensure all families have access to essential vaccines, including the measles vaccine, which are available free of charge at all health centers. The ministry urged parents to vaccinate their children by visiting the nearest health center to protect their health.
Despite the remarkable decline in cases nationwide, vigilance remains crucial, particularly due to disparities observed between provinces in terms of case numbers and vaccination coverage. In this regard, the ministry reiterated its call to all citizens to actively engage in national efforts to eradicate measles, emphasizing that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent the disease, its complications, and its spread.
