During the weekly oral question session at the House of Representatives, Younes Sekkouri, Minister of Economic Integration, Small Businesses, Employment, and Skills, addressed the outcomes of government programs aimed at reducing unemployment in Morocco. Responding to the questions raised, Sekkouri emphasized the significant efforts made by the government in recent years to support integration and employment programs. He highlighted the “Integration” program managed by the National Agency for Employment and Skills, which succeeded in integrating approximately 120,000 individuals into the labor market in 2023, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
Sekkouri noted geographic disparities in these achievements, with the Casablanca region accounting for about 33% of the cases, followed by the Rabat region with 20%, and the Tangier-Tetouan region with 16%. The remaining percentages were distributed among other regions, which face greater challenges in providing job opportunities. Despite this progress, the minister acknowledged that these programs fall short of addressing the larger challenges, particularly in remote areas lacking sufficient investment and job opportunities.
The minister further elaborated on the government’s efforts to enhance incentive programs such as the “Tahfiz” program, which successfully integrated around 20,000 individuals into the workforce, and the “Employability Enhancement” program, which benefited approximately 134,000 people. However, Sekkouri pointed out that the overall unemployment rate remains significant, with two-thirds of unemployed individuals lacking any educational or professional qualifications, adding another layer of complexity to the issue.
To address these challenges, Sekkouri announced the allocation of 14 billion dirhams, which will be distributed across four key areas aimed at reducing unemployment by 2025, with a particular focus on regions suffering from low investment and limited job opportunities.
