Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre confirmed that his country will be among the countries that recognize Palestine as an independent state, noting the importance of establishing a politically cohesive Palestinian state. He also emphasized that a two-state solution is in Israel’s interest, stressing the importance of peace and security for both peoples.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Ida noted that the recognition of a Palestinian state will play a supportive role in achieving peace in the region, expressing his regret for the worsening situation in Gaza.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced his country’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state while describing the Spanish people as a “peaceful people” and accusing the Israeli prime minister of escalating violence.
In Ireland, Prime Minister Simon Harris confirmed Dublin’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state, expressing hope that other countries will join the move in the coming weeks.
Harris concluded a joint press conference with the ministers of foreign affairs and transportation by affirming the right of the Palestinian people to a future of hope and peace and rejecting any attempt to misinterpret this decision.
