During the joint ministerial meeting between Morocco and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, reaffirmed the strength and depth of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the Gulf countries, emphasizing the importance of enhancing and developing it in line with regional and global transformations.
In his speech at the meeting held in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, Bourita expressed his pleasure in renewing discussions with his Gulf counterparts, highlighting the close fraternal ties that unite Morocco with the GCC nations, based on solidarity and mutual support. He extended his gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the meeting and specifically thanked Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud for selecting this occasion during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Bourita reviewed the fruitful Morocco-GCC partnership, which spans political, economic, and developmental dimensions, noting that it is guided by the directives of King Mohammed VI and the Gulf leaders. He stressed that this collaboration is distinguished by a clear vision aimed at strengthening cooperation across various fields.
The Moroccan minister announced the renewal of the joint action plan between Morocco and the GCC until 2030, describing it as a catalyst for exploring innovative mechanisms to elevate cooperation to higher levels, particularly amid the rapid global changes in technology, climate, and demographics.
Bourita also called for greater economic and investment collaboration between the two sides, highlighting Morocco’s promising investment opportunities, especially as the country prepares to host major sporting events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup. These events, he noted, provide a gateway for Gulf companies to engage in large-scale development projects. Additionally, he underscored Morocco’s strategic role as a bridge between the Gulf and Africa, citing initiatives launched by King Mohammed VI, such as the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project and efforts to strengthen cooperation with Atlantic coastal countries.
In a related context, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, praised the council’s steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, reaffirming the GCC’s endorsement of UN Security Council Resolution 2756, issued on October 31, 2024, concerning the Moroccan Sahara.
Al-Budaiwi also commended King Mohammed VI’s pioneering initiatives to enhance cooperation with Africa and lauded the reforms led by the Moroccan monarch, which have positioned Morocco as a reliable strategic partner and a pillar of stability in the region.
