U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Richard Duke Buchan III has been appointed as the new U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.
Trump emphasized that Buchan would play a crucial role in strengthening the bilateral relations between the two countries, with a focus on supporting peace, freedom, and shared prosperity.
Born in 1963 in North Carolina, Richard Duke Buchan III is a prominent businessman and banker in the United States. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to Spain and Andorra from 2017 to 2021.
Buchan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He also studied at the University of Valencia and the University of Seville in Spain.
In 2001, Buchan founded “Hunter Global Investors,” an investment firm based in Florida that specializes in global markets, real estate, and venture capital.
In addition to his professional career, Buchan is known for his philanthropic efforts, managing a farm in North Carolina that supplies produce to charitable organizations.
The United States considers Morocco a strategic partner in North Africa, with Morocco playing a pivotal role in the stability of the region.
This appointment is expected to require confirmation by the U.S. Senate before Buchan officially assumes his role as ambassador to Morocco.
