Fès – The Fès Municipal Council, during an extraordinary session, approved a partnership agreement to establish three new local Civil Protection emergency response centers with a total investment of 40 million Moroccan dirhams, aiming to improve emergency response times and strengthen rescue coverage across the city, particularly in the historic Medina.
The project includes the construction of a rescue center in the Saïss district at a cost of MAD 14 million, in addition to two other centers within the old Medina with a combined budget of MAD 26 million. Funding will be mobilized progressively starting in 2027.
The partnership brings together several stakeholders, including the Regional Governorate of Fès-Meknès, the Fès-Meknès Regional Council, the Fès Provincial Council, the General Directorate of Civil Protection, and the Agency for the Development and Rehabilitation of the City of Fès (ADER-Fès). Each institution will contribute to financing and implementing the project according to its respective responsibilities.
The initiative takes into account the unique urban characteristics of Fès, particularly its UNESCO-listed historic Medina, known for its dense population, narrow streets, and heritage buildings, where rapid emergency intervention is essential in the event of fires, building collapses, or other incidents.
The new facilities are expected to reduce emergency response times, improve coordination among rescue services, and enhance the city’s preparedness to deal with emergencies and natural disasters while supporting ongoing infrastructure and public service modernization efforts.
This project reflects the city’s commitment to strengthening its Civil Protection system by providing modern facilities closer to residents, improving public safety while preserving the historic and architectural identity of Fès.
