Taza – Des acteurs associatifs et des habitants de la ville de Taza ont tiré la sonnette d’alarme face à ce qu’ils qualifient de “détérioration inquiétante” liée à la présence de personnes souffrant de troubles mentaux et de sans-abri dans plusieurs quartiers et rues de la ville, dans un contexte marqué par l’insuffisance des services de santé mentale dans la province. Ils appellent les ministères de l’Intérieur et de la Santé et de la Protection sociale à intervenir d’urgence pour traiter cette situation.
Taza – Civil society groups and residents in the city of Taza have sounded the alarm over what they describe as an “alarming worsening” of the presence of mentally ill individuals and homeless people in several neighborhoods and streets of the city, amid a lack of adequate mental health services in the province. They are calling on the Ministries of Interior and Health and Social Protection to intervene urgently to address the situation.

Selon une pétition adressée aux autorités centrales en date du 5 mai 2026, les habitants ont exprimé leurs inquiétudes concernant l’augmentation du nombre de personnes souffrant de troubles psychiques et mentaux, dont certaines seraient transférées d’autres villes vers Taza. Ils estiment que la situation constitue désormais une réelle menace pour la sécurité publique et la sûreté des citoyens.
According to a petition addressed to central authorities on May 5, 2026, residents expressed concern over the increasing number of people suffering from psychological and mental disorders, some of whom are reportedly being transferred from other cities to Taza. They believe the situation now poses a real threat to public security and citizens’ safety.

Le document fait également état de plusieurs incidents liés à ce phénomène, notamment des actes d’incendie visant des infrastructures publiques, ainsi que des cas répétés d’agressions et de vandalisme, ce qui a créé un climat de peur et d’inquiétude parmi les habitants, surtout après la circulation d’informations concernant le décès tragique d’un enfant mineur dans la ville.
The document also referred to several incidents linked to the phenomenon, including acts of arson targeting public facilities, as well as repeated cases of assault and vandalism, which have created a climate of fear and anxiety among residents, especially following reports about the tragic death of a minor in the city.

La pétition souligne que la province souffre d’un grave manque de services de santé mentale et psychiatrique en raison de l’absence d’un médecin spécialiste à l’hôpital provincial Ibn Baja depuis plus d’un an. Cette situation complique davantage la prise en charge des cas psychiatriques et limite les possibilités de traitement au niveau local.
The petition stressed that the province is suffering from a severe shortage of mental health and psychiatric services due to the absence of a specialist doctor at Ibn Baja Provincial Hospital for more than a year. This situation further complicates the management of psychiatric cases and limits the possibility of local treatment.

Les habitants demandent l’ouverture d’une enquête sur les circonstances du transfert des personnes souffrant de troubles mentaux et des sans-abri vers la ville, ainsi que la mise en place de solutions humaines et légales pour leur hébergement dans des établissements spécialisés, en plus du renforcement de la sécurité dans les quartiers et les points sensibles connaissant une forte présence de ces cas.
Residents are calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the transfer of mentally ill individuals and homeless people to the city, as well as the implementation of humane and legal solutions for housing them in specialized institutions, in addition to strengthening security in neighborhoods and hotspots where these cases are heavily concentrated.

La pétition appelle également à accélérer la mise à disposition d’un médecin ou d’une équipe spécialisée en psychiatrie et santé mentale à l’hôpital provincial, ainsi qu’à la création d’un centre ou d’une unité spécialisée en santé mentale dans la province afin de réduire la pression et d’assurer une prise en charge adaptée des patients selon une approche sanitaire et sociale.
The petition also calls for the urgent provision of a doctor or a specialized psychiatric and mental health team at the provincial hospital, along with the establishment of a mental health center or specialized unit in the province to ease pressure and ensure proper care for patients through a health and social approach.
