Washington – Un membre du Congrès américain a présenté un nouveau projet de loi proposant d’inscrire le Front Polisario sur la liste des organisations terroristes étrangères, une initiative qui pourrait relancer le débat aux États-Unis sur la nature de ce mouvement et son rôle dans la région du Sahel et du Sahara.

Le projet vise à demander à l’administration américaine d’étudier la possibilité de classer le Front Polisario comme organisation terroriste étrangère, en se fondant sur ce que les auteurs du texte qualifient de « préoccupations sécuritaires liées aux activités du groupe dans la région ».
The legislative proposal aims to request that the U.S. administration examine the possibility of designating the Polisario Front as a foreign terrorist organization, based on what the bill’s sponsors describe as “security concerns related to the group’s activities in the region.”

Le projet de loi évoque également des informations faisant état de liens potentiels entre certains éléments du Polisario et des réseaux de contrebande ou des groupes armés opérant dans la région du Sahel, ainsi que des rapports mentionnant l’utilisation de technologies militaires, notamment des drones, dans le conflit autour du Sahara.
The bill also refers to information suggesting potential links between some Polisario elements and smuggling networks or armed groups operating in the Sahel region, in addition to reports mentioning the use of military technologies, including drones, in the ongoing conflict over the Sahara.

S’il est adopté, ce texte pourrait ouvrir la voie à d’éventuelles mesures ou sanctions contre l’organisation, dans le cadre des lois américaines relatives à la lutte contre le terrorisme.
