Fez Education Union Warns of Escalating School Year Crises and Calls for Action

FES – The Fez Regional Office of the National Education Union (FDCH) issued a stark warning today, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, regarding a “deteriorating situation” threatening the foundations of Morocco’s public school system. This follows the office’s regular meeting, convened to assess the launch of the new academic year and monitor the education sector’s status within the region.

The meeting highlighted several structural deficiencies marking the start of the school year, most notably:

• Worsening classroom overcrowding, directly impacting the quality of learning and student academic achievement.
• Acute shortages in leading schools, coupled with inadequate facilities and equipment in numerous educational institutions.
• Lack of decent working conditions for educational and administrative staff, and the persistent precariousness affecting the situation of broad segments of the education workforce.

The office also discussed updates to the workforce’s demands file, reaffirming its unwavering support for the demands of male and female teachers across all categories, and emphasizing its constant concern for their just and legitimate issues.

Expressing deep concern over this situation, which undermines the right of generations to free, quality public education, the Regional Office announced its threefold commitment:

1. Staunch defense of the public school system as a fundamental pillar of social and territorial justice.
2. Upholding the dignity and rights of the education workforce, and countering all attempts to erode their acquired gains.
3. Readiness to pursue all legitimate forms of struggle, in coordination with various union and democratic components, in defense of workers’ rights and the future of the public school system.

Consequently, the Fez Regional Office of the Union calls upon all male and female education personnel to rally ranks, intensify mobilization, and broadly participate in all upcoming struggle initiatives, in defense of the public school system and the rights of the education workforce.
