Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani urged the international community on Sunday to stop applying double standards and to impose sanctions on Israel for what he described as its “crimes.” His remarks came ahead of a meeting in Doha bringing together Arab and Muslim leaders to condemn the Israeli strikes that targeted leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas last week in Doha.
The Qatari Prime Minister said, “The time has come for the international community to end double standards and punish Israel for all the crimes it has committed.” He added, “Israel must understand that the ongoing war of extermination against our Palestinian brothers, aimed at displacing them from their land, will not succeed,” referring to the war in the Gaza Strip triggered by Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The Monday meeting in Doha reflects “broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with the State of Qatar in the face of Israel’s cowardly aggression, as well as the categorical rejection by these countries of the state terrorism practiced by Israel,” according to Qatari authorities.
On September 9, Israel carried out targeted strikes in Doha against Hamas officials, killing five members of the Palestinian movement and one member of Qatar’s security forces. This attack sparked widespread condemnation, particularly from wealthy Gulf monarchies allied with the United States.
