Laghouat, Algeria – May 23, 2024 – A horrific crime shook the Algerian city of Laghouat on Wednesday, where a young man stabbed his sister with a dagger during an Instagram live broadcast.
The crime took place in the 800-residence neighborhood of Aghouat, at around 4:45 pm, when the victim, a woman in her 40s, was live-streaming on her Instagram account. Suddenly, while the victim was interacting with her followers, her brother attacked her and stabbed her with a dagger at the neck level.
The livestream documented the terrifying moment of the stabbing, as the dagger remained embedded in the victim’s neck as the broadcast continued. The footage also showed the victim lying on the ground covered in her own blood, raising her index finger for martyrdom, while her daughter was with her in a hysterical state filming her mother.
The victim was immediately hospitalized in serious condition, and her condition is still unknown.
An investigation was opened by the security authorities to uncover the circumstances and motives of the crime, and the young perpetrator was arrested.
This horrific crime shocked Algerian society and opened a discussion about domestic violence and the role of social media in the spread of such crimes.
