According to information published on the Regional Investment Center’s official website, the project aims to establish an aerial tourist link connecting the southern and northern towers. This would allow visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the old medina and its surroundings, while helping diversify the tourism offering in the Kingdom’s spiritual capital.
The project seeks to enhance Fez’s historical and architectural assets by providing a new way to discover its heritage landmarks and improving access to elevated sites, while ensuring that the associated facilities are integrated into the urban fabric and landscape of the old medina.

The concept is not limited to creating a means of tourist transport. It also includes improving the visitor experience and strengthening integration with existing tourist routes, while taking into account safety, sustainability and universal accessibility requirements, particularly for people with reduced mobility.

According to the published information, the selection of candidates will take place in two phases. The first will involve preliminary selection based on previous experience and track records, an initial assessment of the project’s technical feasibility, and a preliminary financial study.

The second phase will focus on the final selection of candidates who successfully pass the first stage, based on detailed applications that will allow their technical and financial proposals for the project’s design, construction and operation to be evaluated.

According to the published notice, the Regional Investment Center has set January 9, 2027, at 4:30 p.m. as the deadline for submitting preliminary selection applications. The process will be conducted in accordance with the conditions and requirements set out in the call for expressions of interest documents.

The announcement brings the cable car project back to the forefront of discussions about the future of tourism investment in Fez, given the added value it could bring to the local tourism offering, as well as the requirements it raises regarding the protection of the old medina’s historical and urban heritage.

Despite the launch of the call for expressions of interest, the project has not necessarily reached the stage of construction commencing. Its implementation remains dependent on the selection results, the completion of the necessary studies and procedures, and the determination of the investment cost, implementation schedule and operating conditions.
