Fès – L’avocat au barreau de Fès, Mohamed El Akri, a annoncé sa démission de la Ligue des avocats istiqlaliens – section de Fès, exprimant son rejet du projet de loi régissant la profession d’avocat, qu’il considère comme une atteinte à l’indépendance de la profession et à ses acquis historiques.
Dans une déclaration de démission, dont Fès News a obtenu une copie, Me El Akri affirme que son engagement politique n’a jamais eu pour objectif d’obtenir un avantage ou une fonction, mais qu’il reposait sur la conviction de servir l’intérêt général et de consolider l’État des institutions. Il estime toutefois que le projet de loi relatif à la profession soulève des problématiques susceptibles d’affecter les garanties de la défense et l’indépendance des avocats.
L’avocat démissionnaire souligne que l’indépendance de la profession d’avocat constitue, selon ses propos, une garantie constitutionnelle destinée à protéger les droits des citoyens avant d’être un privilège accordé aux avocats. Il ajoute que les positions adoptées durant les débats autour du projet de loi l’ont conduit à quitter la Ligue des avocats istiqlaliens.
Dans le même communiqué, il précise que cette décision est conforme à ses convictions professionnelles et annonce également la fin de son appartenance au Parti de l’Istiqlal ainsi qu’à la Ligue des avocats istiqlaliens, à compter du 7 juillet 2026.
Cette démission intervient dans un contexte marqué par la poursuite des réactions au sein des milieux professionnels à propos du projet de loi encadrant la profession d’avocat, lequel suscite depuis plusieurs semaines un large débat parmi les avocats et les organisations professionnelles, avec des positions divergentes quant à son contenu et à ses répercussions.
Il convient de rappeler que plusieurs avocats ont déjà annoncé, ces derniers jours, leur démission de la Ligue des avocats istiqlaliens, estimant que cette démarche traduit leur position à l’égard du projet de loi, dans l’attente des résultats des concertations en cours autour de cette réforme législative.

Fès – Lawyer Mohamed El Akri, a member of the Fès Bar Association, has announced his resignation from the Istiqlal Lawyers League – Fès branch, expressing his opposition to the draft law governing the legal profession, which he believes undermines the independence of lawyers and threatens the profession’s long-established achievements.
In his resignation statement, a copy of which was obtained by Fès News, El Akri said that his political engagement had never been motivated by the pursuit of privileges or positions, but rather by a commitment to serving the public interest and strengthening institutional governance. However, he argued that the proposed law raises concerns that could affect the guarantees of legal defense and the independence of the legal profession.
The resigning lawyer stressed that the independence of the legal profession is, in his view, a constitutional safeguard designed to protect citizens’ rights before being a privilege for lawyers. He explained that the positions adopted during discussions on the draft law prompted him to resign from the Istiqlal Lawyers League.
In the same statement, he affirmed that his resignation reflects his professional convictions and also announced the end of his affiliation with both the Istiqlal Party and the Istiqlal Lawyers League, effective July 7, 2026.
The resignation comes amid continuing reactions within legal and professional circles regarding the draft law regulating the legal profession, which has sparked widespread debate among lawyers and professional bodies over recent weeks, with differing views on its provisions and potential impact on the profession.
Several lawyers have already announced their resignation from the Istiqlal Lawyers League in recent days, describing the move as an expression of their stance on the proposed legislation while consultations on the legislative reform continue.
