Ces déclarations ont été faites lors d’une interview médiatique en marge de sa participation au Sommet mondial des gouvernements tenu à Dubaï, au cours de laquelle il a souligné que la coordination étroite avec le Royaume du Maroc avait contribué de manière « tangible » à la réduction du nombre d’arrivées irrégulières, en particulier au cours de l’année écoulée.

Selon les données publiées par le ministère espagnol de l’Intérieur, l’Espagne a enregistré en 2025 une baisse de 42,6 % du nombre de migrants en situation irrégulière, un recul attribué principalement à la forte diminution des flux via la route des îles Canaries, qui constituait l’un des principaux points de passage ces dernières années.
