Intelligence Services Thwart the Trafficking of a Large Quantity of Fireworks and Signal Flares That Pose a Threat to Moroccans

Officers from the Provincial Judicial Police Service in the city of Casablanca, acting on precise intelligence provided by the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance, arrested yesterday, Thursday, January 15, two individuals aged 41 and 53.

Security forces seized a total of 37,000 units of smuggled fireworks and signal flares, which pose a direct threat to the safety of persons and property.

The operation was carried out in two warehouses located in Casablanca and Daroua. The two suspects were caught in flagrante delicto while possessing and trafficking these flammable materials, whose circulation is prohibited by law due to the security risks they entail.

Preliminary examinations revealed that the seized shipment included highly dangerous fireworks and signal flares. Similar materials have recently been used in physical assaults, resulting in injuries described as serious.

The suspects were placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to identify the source of these prohibited materials and uncover the methods used for their importation and storage.

Security services are continuing their investigations to determine the identities of other individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of these materials on the national market.

This operation falls within the framework of the ongoing efforts made by the Directorate General of National Security, in coordination with the Directorate General for Territorial Surveillance, to combat the smuggling and trafficking of fireworks and signal flares, given the threat they pose to the security and safety of citizens and their property.
