Heads up: Orange weather alert—heavy instability, thunderstorms, hail, snow, cold, and strong winds expected in several provinces (Fès–Meknès included)

Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology reported that several parts of the country are expected to experience severe weather conditions from Thursday, December 25, 2025 to Sunday, December 28, 2025, including locally strong thunderstorms that may be accompanied by hail and wind gusts, as well as snowfall, strong winds, and very cold temperatures, according to an orange-level alert bulletin.

According to the same information, locally strong thundery showers (25–35 mm) with hail and gusty winds are expected in provinces including Kenitra, Salé, Rabat, Larache, and Tangier–Assilah on Friday, from 1:00 a.m. to noon.

The bulletin also forecasts heavier rainfall (40–60 mm) on Saturday from 1:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. in Agadir Ida-Outanane, Chtouka Aït Baha, Inzegane-Aït Melloul, Taroudant, Tiznit, Essaouira, El Jadida, Safi, and Sidi Bennour. Meanwhile, rainfall ranging between 20–40 mm is expected during the same period in areas including Mohammedia, Benslimane, Berrechid, Settat, Chichaoua, Rehamna, Casablanca, Mediouna, Nouaceur, and Youssoufia.

Snowfall and cold across Fès–Meknès and neighboring mountainous areas

For the Fès–Meknès region and adjacent mountainous zones, the bulletin points to snowfall from 1,500 meters with expected accumulations of 10–25 cm, affecting provinces including Boulemane, Sefrou, Ifrane, and Taza, as well as Midelt, Al Hoceima, Guercif, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, Taroudant, and Chichaoua, on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Snow is also expected to continue with accumulations of 10–35 cm from Saturday 1:00 a.m. to Sunday 11:00 p.m., notably in provinces including Ifrane, Sefrou, and Boulemane.

Strong winds and very low temperatures

The bulletin adds the possibility of strong wind gusts (75–85 km/h) on Saturday from 1:00 a.m. to noon, especially in areas including Safi, Chichaoua, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, and El Jadida. It also warns of very cold weather, with temperatures ranging between -3°C and -7°C in provinces including Ifrane, Boulemane, Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Chichaoua, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, and Taroudant, from Thursday to Sunday.

Meteorological services urged the public to remain cautious—particularly on mountain roads and high-altitude routes—and to follow official updated bulletins to avoid potential risks linked to snow, floods, or strong winds.
