On the afternoon of Thursday, September 25, 2025, a significant communication meeting took place between the Regional Office of the National Health Union, affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) in Fez, and the administration of the Higher Institute of Nursing and Health Techniques (ISPITS) in Fez. The meeting was dedicated to discussing key issues related to the conditions and quality of training within this vital academic institution.
During the meeting, the Regional Office presented a detailed overview of the obstacles hindering the smooth progress of study and training, repeatedly emphasizing the need for intervention by responsible authorities to address them. Among the main issues were: weak infrastructure and lack of sufficient classrooms to accommodate the growing number of students and new specializations; limited academic supervision and scarcity of supervisors; and significant difficulties faced by professors in traveling to training centers.
The statement also highlighted students’ suffering caused by the policy of repeating an entire academic year upon failing a single course unit, which places significant financial and psychological pressure on them. Additional demands included improving the quality of practical training and providing it conveniently near students’ residences, as well as addressing the unfair distribution of supervisors for graduation research projects, the absence of simulation laboratories, continuous training programs for professors, and a documentation and scientific research center serving both students and educational staff.
The union office emphasized that the increased number of trainees from private schools and the overlapping responsibilities at training institutions negatively impact the quality of practical supervision for ISPITS students, weakening their opportunities for balanced benefit from internships.
The Director of the institute clarified the efforts and measures taken by the administration within available means to mitigate these obstacles, while acknowledging that some issues – such as the repetition of the full academic year and the matter of practical internships – exceed the institute’s authority and require direct intervention from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
The Regional Office announced its intention to contact the National Office of the Union to follow up on these files with the competent authorities, aiming to find permanent and effective solutions to improve training conditions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was affirmed that student interests and the quality of their training must remain at the heart of any reform, considering that investing in students is a direct investment in citizens’ health and the future of Morocco’s health system. Faculty and staff of the institute were encouraged to continue their educational and academic roles. The statement ended by stressing that providing compensation to ISPITS students for their internships is a fundamental demand that the National Health Union CDT will relentlessly defend and pursue, urging the ministry to expedite its implementation similarly to the arrangements made for students of medical, pharmacy, and dental schools.
