Rabat, Morocco – Morocco has launched the first floating solar power plant of its kind in the country, with a production capacity of 13 megawatts. The plant is situated on the reservoir of the Oued Rmel dam and is designed to provide green electricity to the Tangier Med port complex, in a move that reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to transitioning to clean energy.
This strategic project is part of Morocco’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 by increasing reliance on renewable energy sources and reducing polluting gas emissions.
In addition to its role in energy generation, the installation of this floating plant helps reduce the rate of water evaporation from the dam’s reservoir. This innovative approach combines two strategic goals: producing clean energy and conserving precious water resources.
This new achievement underscores Morocco’s continuous commitment to accelerating the energy transition and strengthening its position as a leading regional player in the field of renewable energy, especially in light of the successes achieved by the Kingdom in similar solar and wind energy projects.
