Meknes, Morocco – One year after the president of Moulay Ismail University intervened to stop the administration from selling sportswear to students, the National School of Arts and Crafts (ENSAM) in Meknes has once again sparked controversy. The school’s administration has resumed its controversial practice, causing widespread indignation among students who have officially expressed their categorical rejection of the decision.
The issue dates back to last year when the “Fes News” newspaper published an article revealing that the school’s administration was forcing students to purchase sportswear. This had led to angry reactions and a direct intervention from the university president to halt the practice.
The resumption of these practices comes just one week after the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation dismissed the university president. Many students and education sector professionals see this as an opportunity for the school’s administration to disregard previous decisions and reimpose its old policy.
In their official statement, the students condemned the decision, emphasizing that it exploits their academic situation and adds unjustified financial burdens. They have called on the responsible authorities to intervene once more to stop these practices, which they argue contradict the principles of free education and equal opportunity.
