In a heartbreaking incident that shook the atmosphere of the Throne Cup final match between Renaissance Berkane and Olympique Safi, a minor fan from Safi was seriously injured in a traffic accident near the stadium. He was struck by a police vehicle, resulting in severe head injuries.
Al-Hassan Al-Ghizi, the boy’s father, told Fes News the painful details of the accident. He said he received a distressing call informing him that his son had been involved in the accident and that his condition was critical due to a fractured skull and heavy bleeding. He added that authorities did not allow him to visit his son until three days later, and when he finally saw him, the boy was in a dire state, unconscious and unable to speak.
The father confirmed that his son is 15 years old and was on his way to the stadium to support his team, Olympique Safi. He noted that the club had contacted him and offered support but urged the club’s management and president to intervene and assist with his son’s medical care.
Al-Ghizi also highlighted the family’s severe financial difficulties, explaining that the cost of treatment and medication is very high, and they lack the means to cover these expenses. He expressed gratitude to the people of Fez for their solidarity and warm reception during their stay in the city.
The family praised the local police for their prompt intervention and support, despite the unfortunate circumstances of the accident.
The family and the team’s supporters call on everyone to stand by the young boy in his ordeal and to help provide both financial and moral support, stressing that his life is at risk and that any assistance will be deeply appreciated.
This incident raises serious questions about safety measures during major events, especially regarding fan protection, and calls for a review of security protocols to prevent such tragedies from happening again in the future.
