Fez – A number of residents in the Atlas neighborhood of Fez have expressed their extreme dissatisfaction and fear regarding the increasing spread of a pack of stray and sick dogs that threaten the safety and comfort of their children, especially in the vicinity of the “Marche de l’Atlas” (Atlas Market) – described as catastrophic – and the “Al Omrane Al Jadida” (New Urbanization) area (formerly Sidi El Khemi).
“Fas News” newspaper received a complaint from one of its readers, a resident of the neighborhood, who confirmed that he had submitted “more than 5 complaints” to the Fez municipality and the Akdal district during this month, but had received “no response or interaction” from the concerned authorities, which he described as “unfortunate indifference.”
Detailing the complaint, the affected resident explained that stray dogs roam the neighborhood in large numbers, posing a real threat to the safety of passersby, especially children going to and from school in the morning and evening, as well as mothers and the elderly. He also pointed out that the presence of these dogs is significantly exacerbated in the vicinity of the “Marche de l’Atlas,” which he described as “catastrophic,” in addition to the “Al Omrane Al Jadida” (formerly Sidi El Khemi) area and near “CTM Voyageurs” (the CTM bus station).
Considering the attached image, which includes details of a complaint bearing the number 619900 submitted on May 8, 2025, at 11:38 AM to the Fez municipality, specifically the Fez Medina district, under the subject “Very Dangerous and Numerous Stray Dogs,” these details confirm the validity of the increasing complaints received by the newspaper from residents of the Atlas neighborhood regarding this problem.
The details of the complaint submitted via the “chikaya.ma” online portal indicate that the status of the complaint is still “in progress” after more than 10 full days since its submission, reflecting the slowness and lack of prompt response to the demands of the affected residents. The complaint included an urgent message requesting “Please very strict and urgent intervention, to protect full and direct responsibility.”
Faced with this situation, the residents of the Atlas neighborhood are questioning the measures that the Fez municipality and the Akdal district will take to put an end to their suffering and provide a safe and healthy environment for them and their children. They are demanding urgent and effective intervention from the responsible authorities to collect these stray dogs and take the necessary measures to ensure their non-return, in order to preserve public safety and health.
The residents of the Atlas neighborhood remain fearful of the continuation of this situation, which threatens their daily security, and appeal to the concerned authorities to listen to their voices and take serious and effective action to remove this harm from them.
