Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, met on Monday in Rabat with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura.
The visit, which is part of a regional tour, comes on the eve of the informal consultations of the UN Security Council scheduled for mid-April 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. The meeting was attended by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale.
During the meeting, the Moroccan delegation outlined the international dynamic initiated by King Mohammed VI in favor of the Moroccanness of the Sahara and in support of the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative. In this context, the King called on the United Nations, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Green March on November 6, 2024, to “assume its responsibilities by highlighting the significant difference between two paradigms: the one embodied by Morocco in its Sahara, realistic and legitimate, and the one based on a rigid vision, detached from the real world and its developments.”
The Moroccan delegation also reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to reach a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting political solution based exclusively on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
