In a coordinated operation, national security officers in collaboration with customs authorities at the Tanger Med Port foiled a major smuggling attempt on the evening of Wednesday, April 23. A total of 11,165 fireworks and pyrotechnic items were seized, which had been hidden inside a utility vehicle arriving from a European port.
The operation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old French national of Moroccan origin immediately upon his arrival by sea, on suspicion of attempting to smuggle highly flammable materials that pose a serious threat to public safety and property.
The suspect was placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to uncover all the circumstances surrounding the case and to investigate any potential national or international connections related to this criminal activity.
