The Fes News newspaper has received a statement issued by the Local Confederation of Democratic Labor (CDT) in Meknes following its regular meeting held on Sunday, March 23, 2025. The meeting addressed the local situation, which the union described as “catastrophic,” criticizing what it considers mismanagement by local and regional authorities, as well as the worsening economic and social crises in the city.
The statement highlighted the deterioration of infrastructure in Meknes, ongoing urban transport issues, weak public lighting, and rising unemployment rates. It also pointed to the alarming increase in prices, which is burdening citizens amid a lack of effective solutions from the responsible authorities.
The local union asserted that the absence of serious interventions from the authorities, alongside what it described as “passive neutrality,” has contributed to the escalation of these crises. It called for holding those responsible for negligence accountable.
Furthermore, the union condemned what it sees as the government’s failure to institutionalize social dialogue, emphasizing the need to address workers’ demands and improve their professional and social conditions. It also reaffirmed its rejection of what it termed the “regressive strike law,” expressing its support for various labor sectors affiliated with the CDT in the Meknes and El Hajeb regions.
The union urged local, regional, and judicial authorities to assume their responsibilities regarding what it described as the “repression of union activities” in Meknes, calling for an end to what it labeled as “deceptive practices and maneuvers” aimed at obstructing union work.
In conclusion, the statement congratulated all union members on the success of the fifth edition of the “Noubir El Amoumi” Workers’ Memorial Tournament, considering it a reflection of union unity. It also called on all activists to continue mobilizing and strengthening their ranks to defend labor rights and face upcoming challenges.
