Morocco Strongly Condemns Israeli Strikes on Gaza

On Thursday, Morocco expressed its firm condemnation of the new Israeli strikes that have killed hundreds of people in the Gaza Strip since Monday. During a press conference following the 1266th Ministerial Meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, stated that Morocco condemns “in the strongest terms” the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the Kingdom is closely monitoring the escalation of violence targeting civilians in the Palestinian territories. He described the Israeli attacks as contrary to efforts aimed at establishing peace in the region and called on all relevant parties to work toward an “immediate ceasefire.”

Meanwhile, large-scale demonstrations took place on Tuesday evening in several Moroccan cities to denounce the latest Israeli strikes on Gaza. Protesters in Casablanca, Rabat, and Tangier waved Palestinian flags and held banners calling for an end to the “genocide” or even the “holocaust” in Gaza, chanting anti-normalization slogans and expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.

These Israeli strikes, the deadliest since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on January 19, shattered the relative calm that had prevailed in the Gaza Strip since the truce began. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that these attacks were “just the beginning,” following 15 months of war triggered by Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023.
