In a significant operation, the judicial police in Laayoune arrested a suspect on Thursday, April 24, believed to be involved in a criminal network specializing in the forgery and sale of fake academic diplomas and certificates via social media platforms.
According to security sources, the investigation began after suspicious online advertisements were detected offering forged diplomas and equivalent certification documents for sale. This triggered both field and technical investigations, which quickly led to the identification of two suspects. One of them was apprehended, while the second is still being sought after his full identity was confirmed.
A search conducted at the arrested individual’s residence uncovered a substantial quantity of forged documents, including:
- 69 fake diplomas
- 28 forged equivalency certificates allegedly issued by vocational training institutions
- 47 diploma application forms
- 8 counterfeit stamps from various educational institutions
Police also seized several electronic devices suspected to have been used in the forgery operation, including a desktop computer, a data storage device, a bank card, and 16 financial transfer receipts, which are believed to represent payments made for the fake documents.
The suspect is now under judicial custody, as the investigation—supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office—continues to uncover the full scope of this criminal activity and identify additional individuals involved.
