In a shocking incident late Thursday night, April 24, police in the Inezgane district arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of assaulting a public transport bus driver using a blunt object.
According to preliminary investigation findings, the altercation began when the bus driver reportedly refused to allow the suspect to board. The situation quickly escalated, culminating in the suspect throwing a stone at the driver, striking him in the face and causing visible injuries.
Amid the ensuing chaos, two other passengers allegedly took advantage of the scene to steal cash revenues from the fare collection box inside the bus.
Parts of the incident were captured on video and widely circulated on social media, which accelerated police response. Investigators promptly identified the primary suspect and managed to apprehend him shortly after the event.
The suspect has been placed in police custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, while investigations continue to locate and arrest the remaining individuals involved in the robbery.
