The “Death Section” Between Fes and Taza: MP Sounds the Alarm and Holds the Ministry of Equipment Accountable!

Khalid Al-Ajli, a Member of Parliament from the National Rally of Independents (RNI), has addressed a written question to the Minister of Equipment and Water regarding the condition of the highway section connecting Fes and Taza. This stretch of road has witnessed repeated traffic accidents, the latest of which occurred on February 26, 2025, when a cargo truck collided with a passenger bus near the Bouhloo Bridge in the Oued Amlil commune, injuring more than twenty people.

Al-Ajli described this section as a “black spot” that poses a serious risk to road users due to its dangerous slopes, deteriorating road edges, and the absence or insufficiency of necessary infrastructure. He emphasized that this issue is not new, recalling another tragic accident on the same stretch two years ago, which claimed the lives of at least twenty people.

The MP questioned the measures the Ministry of Equipment plans to take to maintain and rehabilitate this road section to ensure the safety of its users.

For his part, Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, previously stated that the rehabilitation of the Fes-Taza highway is part of a major infrastructure reform program. He explained that the deterioration of certain sections is due to the geotechnical characteristics of the area, unstable soil conditions, and natural factors such as the presence of the Rif and Atlas mountain ranges, deep groundwater levels, and heavy rainfall.
