Severe Weather Disrupts Movement in Taza: School Closures and Warnings of Dangerous Conditions Requiring Caution

Local sources reported that the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports in the Taza region has decided to suspend classes today, Friday, March 14, in several educational institutions located in mountainous areas due to the severe weather conditions affecting the region, including heavy rainfall and snowfall.

According to available information, this decision applies to schools in remote rural communities where access is difficult under the current weather conditions. Among these communities are Bni Frassen, Bni Lent, Kaf El Ghar, Rbaa El Foukani, and Oued Amlil.

This measure follows a weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, warning of significant weather disturbances across various regions of the country. These disturbances include heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts, and heavy snowfall in mountainous areas exceeding 1,800 meters in altitude, expected from Thursday evening until Saturday.

According to the same alert, rainfall amounts are expected to range between 40 and 70 mm in several provinces, including Taza, while snowfall in the mountainous areas of Taza, Azilal, Ifrane, and Khenifra is forecasted to reach up to 50 cm. Additionally, some regions, including Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, and Tangier-Asilah, are expected to experience strong wind gusts reaching speeds of up to 85 km/h.

Local authorities have urged residents, especially those in mountainous and flood-prone areas, to exercise caution, adhere to precautionary measures, follow official weather reports, and take necessary steps to ensure their safety.
