In what could have been a dangerous incident, a road collapse occurred yesterday in the Rachad neighborhood, known as “Chlouha”, in the city of Taza. A truck carrying gas cylinders was caught as a sinkhole formed beneath its wheels. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident has reignited public debate over the quality of infrastructure projects and adherence to safety standards.
According to local residents, recent water pipe replacement work was not properly completed. The road was left unsealed, making the soil unstable and prone to collapse. This lack of proper resurfacing has raised serious safety concerns, putting both lives and property at risk.
Residents also expressed frustration over the road being left in a fragile state for more than a week without intervention from the company responsible for the project. They questioned the role of local authorities, including Taza Municipality and regional officials, in ensuring that infrastructure projects meet safety and quality standards.
Following this incident, citizens are demanding:
✔ An investigation into whether the construction company adhered to safety regulations.
✔ Accountability for those responsible for the oversight failure.
✔ Stronger monitoring mechanisms to ensure quality infrastructure and protect public safety.
With growing concerns over infrastructure reliability, residents urge authorities to take immediate action to prevent similar accidents in the future.
