Report on the National Symposium on Life Skills in Light of Sustainable Development Goals

The city of Taza hosted the National Symposium on Life Skills in Light of Sustainable Development Goals, organized under the patronage and partnership of the Model United Nations Youth Council of Morocco, the initiative “Country First, Always”, the Taza Volunteer Club, and the August 14 Youth Center, Al Massira 2.

The symposium’s proceedings took place at the Youth Center, opening with a speech by Mr. Ayman Boujmid, representative of the Taza Volunteer Club, who welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of the symposium in raising youth awareness about the necessity of acquiring life skills to contribute to sustainable development.

Following this, Ms. Fatima Chouikh, Director of the August 14 Youth Center, Al Massira 2, delivered an opening speech, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in supporting and empowering youth. She pointed out the role of life skills in enhancing young people’s abilities and enabling them to effectively face life’s challenges.

The symposium featured valuable contributions from several professors and experts, including:

  • Mr. Abdelmajid El Idrissi, a youth empowerment specialist and executive member of both the “Country First, Always” initiative and the Model United Nations Youth Council of Morocco. He presented an intervention on life skills and their importance in building society and youth, explaining their impact on the future and stressing the need to invest in human capital to ensure sustainable development. He also affirmed the commitment of the participating institutions to implementing a continuous training project for the youth of Taza.
  • Mr. Mourad Maghiss, representative of the “Country First, Always” initiative, who shared the initiative’s vision in the field of training, mentoring, and youth support. He reviewed the projects the organization is working on and called for intensified joint efforts to achieve the desired development goals.
  • Mr. Mohamed El Amarti, representative of the Model United Nations Youth Council of Morocco, who presented an overview of the Model United Nations experience in Tetouan as an inspiring example of life skills development. He highlighted how this experience enhances young people’s abilities in communication, dialogue, negotiation, and decision-making, thereby preparing them for active participation in society and leadership roles.

At the conclusion of the symposium, a quadripartite cooperation protocol was signed between the organizing institutions, aiming to launch continuous training programs for youth and children to enhance their capacities and develop their skills in line with sustainable development requirements.

Additionally, certificates of attendance were distributed to the participating youth and stakeholders in recognition of their active contribution to the success of this initiative.

This symposium reflected the commitment of civil actors and youth institutions to supporting and empowering young people by providing training and mentoring opportunities that contribute to building a more aware and capable society to face future challenges. This youth partnership represents a significant step toward enhancing life skills and preparing future generations in Taza through a new cooperation protocol that supports continuous training in this field.
