Parliament Reacts to the Dismissal of Regional Education Directors

Rachid Hamouni, head of the Progress and Socialism Group in the House of Representatives, has raised sharp questions to Minister of National Education, Saad Barada, regarding the recent dismissal of several regional directors in the education sector. He has demanded clarification on the real motives behind this controversial decision.

In a written inquiry, Hamouni pointed out that these sudden dismissals affected officials known for their competence and integrity, with distinguished career records. This raises concerns about whether these decisions were based on objective criteria or driven by selective, political, or electoral considerations.

The parliamentary leader emphasized that the education sector, overseen by Minister Barada, is one of the most sensitive in the country, directly impacting millions of citizens and managing large-scale national programs with significant social and developmental dimensions. This, he argued, necessitates greater transparency in such decisions.

Hamouni questioned whether these dismissals were part of a new vision for educational reform, a professional evaluation requiring public clarification of the criteria used, or merely an attempt to erase the legacy of the previous minister—indicating a break rather than a continuation of past achievements.

He also called for an explanation of the role played by Regional Academies of Education and Training in these decisions and their alignment with the decentralization strategy in the sector. Stressing the need for comprehensive clarifications, he warned against interpretations that could undermine the ministry’s credibility and the ongoing education reform process in Morocco.
