Recent Rainfall Increases Water Reserves in Oum Er-Rbia Basin Dams

According to data from the Oum Er-Rbia Hydraulic Basin Agency, recent rainfall has contributed to an increase in water reserves across the basin’s dams, with total inflows reaching 84.5 million cubic meters.

Monia El Azhari, Head of Water Resources Monitoring, Evaluation, and Planning at the agency’s regional delegation in El Jadida, stated in an interview with the official news agency that Al Massira Dam received 23.6 million cubic meters, representing a filling rate of 3.14%. Meanwhile, inflows reached 22.4 million cubic meters at Ahmed El Hansali Dam and 17.3 million cubic meters at Bin El Ouidane Dam.

El Azhari added that the rainfall has also boosted water reserves in smaller dams across Doukkala and Abda, including Imfout and Dourat dams in Oulad Frej, which have a capacity of 6.6 million cubic meters, as well as Sidi Said Ben Machou Dam in Berrechid Province, with a capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters.

She pointed out that expected rainfall through the end of the week will further enhance dam reserves and positively impact groundwater levels, particularly in Doukkala, allowing farmers to resume irrigation activities.

For his part, Abdellah Wahbi, Head of Drinking Water Production at the Dourat Station, confirmed that the recent rainfall has significantly improved dam reserves and replenished the basins within the Oum Er-Rbia watershed.

Wahbi explained that the Dourat Station plays a vital role in supplying drinking water to several cities and urban centers, including Casablanca, Settat, Berrechid, and Azemmour, in addition to nearby villages and rural areas along its water channels.

It is worth noting that between March 1 and March 10, the Oum Er-Rbia basin recorded significant rainfall, with an average precipitation of 61 mm.
