The Moroccan political scene has witnessed widespread controversy following reports of the misuse of public resources and the distribution of social aid through suspicious methods that serve electoral agendas. This issue has raised questions about the transparency of the electoral process and the extent to which principles of integrity and equality among political actors are being upheld.
Parliamentary sources revealed documented cases showing the involvement of a charitable organization linked to a party within the ruling coalition in distributing in-kind assistance across several regions. This has sparked widespread criticism regarding the exploitation of political influence and the manipulation of vulnerable communities’ hardships for electoral gains.
Opposition groups in Parliament, led by the Progress and Socialism Party, have called on the Minister of Interior for official clarifications on the extent to which laws governing aid distribution outside electoral periods are being respected. They have also demanded measures to prevent the misuse of humanitarian work to influence voters. Additionally, they emphasized the necessity of adhering to legal provisions regulating fundraising and aid distribution, as stipulated by Law 18.18 and Regulatory Law No. 7159.
This controversy comes at a time when political actors and civil society are stressing the importance of enhancing transparency, ensuring fair competition in elections, and safeguarding the democratic process from any deviations that could undermine its credibility.
