Civil society groups in the Tazaounate region have issued an urgent call via social media, urging the formation of a specialized committee to monitor prices in the region’s weekly markets and commercial stores. This call comes amid a significant rise in the prices of essential food items, coinciding with Ramadan, a period marked by increased consumption of vegetables, fruits, meats, fish, and eggs by Moroccan families.
Local sources reported that the region is experiencing noticeable disparities in the prices of basic goods compared to other areas, leading to imbalances that affect the purchasing power of citizens, especially low-income groups who rely on these products to prepare Iftar and Suhoor meals.
Civil society organizations have called for immediate intervention from local authorities to monitor markets and stores, urging the authorities to confront the phenomenon of hoarding and greed practiced by some lobbies. These groups exploit religious and social occasions to unjustifiably raise prices, exacerbating the economic burden on families.
