King Mohammed VI Leads Persuasive Diplomacy to Establish a Comprehensive Vision for Gaza Reconstruction

During this week’s Extraordinary Arab Summit on Palestine, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering and consistent stance in support of the Palestinian cause. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, Morocco has continuously backed Palestine through diplomatic efforts as well as humanitarian and developmental initiatives.

Bourita emphasized that King Mohammed VI’s vision for the reconstruction of Gaza is based on fundamental principles to ensure the success of this process. First and foremost, Gaza, like the West Bank, is an inseparable part of Palestinian territory, and thus, only the Palestinian people have the right to determine their future. He also stressed that the Palestinian Authority remains the legitimate body responsible for shaping Gaza’s future and leading its reconstruction, making it essential to support its role and avoid any international initiatives that bypass its authority.

The minister underlined that effective reconstruction can only begin once a ceasefire is secured and humanitarian aid is delivered, followed by a permanent end to hostilities—an essential condition before launching rebuilding efforts. He clarified that reconstruction is not merely a financial or technical project but requires a clear political vision, involving regional and international stakeholders, along with internal Palestinian unity to ensure its success.

Regarding Jerusalem, Bourita highlighted Morocco’s commitment to preserving the city’s legal and historical status under King Mohammed VI’s leadership of the Al-Quds Committee. He underscored the crucial role of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in supporting developmental, social, and economic projects that strengthen the Palestinian presence in the Holy City, particularly amid the challenges faced by its residents.

The minister affirmed that the Arab summit adopted a clear strategy for Gaza’s reconstruction, which now requires diplomatic efforts to rally international partners for its endorsement, promote it politically, and overcome potential obstacles. He stressed that the success of this initiative hinges on Palestinian unity and the establishment of a clear political framework that ultimately leads to a two-state solution—establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Bourita reiterated that Morocco will continue its diplomatic efforts in international forums to support the Palestinian cause, in line with King Mohammed VI’s steadfast commitment. He added that achieving peace in the region necessitates putting an end to repeated aggressions, rejecting hate speech and extremism, and fostering an environment conducive to political dialogue that leads to a just and lasting resolution ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
