Late on Sunday evening, February 16, national security agents at Tangier Medina Port managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle 64,080 narcotic pills and arrest three people aged between 22 and 54, suspected of being linked to a criminal network active in the international smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
According to security data, the suspects, a married couple and their son, were arrested upon their arrival on a cruise ship coming from a European port. A search of the vehicle they were traveling in resulted in the seizure of a shipment of narcotic pills, including 50,880 Rivotril tablets and 13,200 Tranquemazine tablets.
The arrested persons were subjected to judicial investigation conducted by the Judicial Police Department of Tangier under the supervision of the competent public prosecution, in order to uncover all the circumstances of the case and identify the possible extensions of this criminal activity.
This operation comes within the framework of the continuous efforts made by the General Directorate of National Security to combat international trafficking networks of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
