Benkirane Slams Attempts to Ban PJD Congress: “They Asked the Interior Minister to Intervene… Has Shame Reached Its End?” (Video)

Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), strongly criticized recent calls urging the Ministry of Interior to prevent the party’s upcoming ninth national congress. The controversy emerged after the congress organizing committee extended invitations to leaders of Hamas, prompting backlash from some political circles.

In a speech during a meeting of the PJD’s General Secretariat, Benkirane denounced these demands as “shameless” and disconnected from the national interest. “Those calling on the Interior Ministry to ban the congress simply because we invited Hamas figures… this is disgraceful. Has shame reached its end?” he stated.

Benkirane questioned the motivations behind the targeting of Hamas, describing it as a legitimate resistance movement that has made significant sacrifices in the face of Israeli aggression. “The Palestinian cause is not just about Palestine – it is the cause of the entire Arab and Islamic nation,” he said.

He further emphasized Morocco’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, who has consistently placed it on the same level of importance as the country’s territorial integrity. “Calls to oppose Hamas contradict the national consensus in support of Palestine,” Benkirane stressed.

He concluded his speech with a warning: “History will not forgive those who choose to ignore the Palestinian cause.”
