Amid the rapid transformations taking place in Morocco’s job market, self-assessment has become a central tool that enables individuals to design realistic and balanced career paths aligned with their ambitions and skills, while also responding to the needs of the national economy.
Self-assessment is defined as a personal analytical process through which individuals identify their strengths and weaknesses, explore their interests, and assess their cognitive and behavioral abilities. This plays a major role in making informed career decisions based on tangible data.
According to a report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the lack of self-assessment among a wide segment of youth in developing countries—including Morocco—often leads to academic and career choices that do not align with their abilities or with labor market demands. This mismatch frequently results in higher unemployment rates or erratic career transitions.
In the Moroccan context, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills emphasizes the importance of embedding a culture of self-assessment in schools and training institutes as part of professional guidance programs. Initiatives such as the “Madrassati-Massari” platform aim to empower students to gain a better understanding of themselves before choosing their academic or career paths.
Meanwhile, several private institutions and vocational training centers have begun integrating self-assessment sessions into their programs. These are facilitated through digital tools and internationally recognized psychological tests, such as MBTI and DISC, which are widely used in the United States and Europe to help guide young people toward career paths best suited to their personalities.
Experts in career counseling and occupational psychology agree that self-assessment should not be seen as a one-time step, but rather as a continuous and evolving process that keeps pace with personal development and shifting market dynamics—especially in light of new challenges related to digitization, artificial intelligence, and environmental transformation.
This approach aligns with the recommendations of Morocco’s New Development Model, which advocates for the development of human capital and the creation of flexible and targeted career pathways based on self-assessment and continuous training—ultimately strengthening the prospects for economic and social inclusion.
