Danish Satirical Response to Trump: Campaign Calls for Annexing California to Denmark

In an unexpected move, Danish activists launched a campaign on Monday calling for the purchase of the state of California from the United States and its annexation to Denmark. This comes as a response to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to buy Greenland, which is a territory of Denmark.

The campaign, launched on a website named “Denmarkification,” was presented in a satirical and provocative manner. The organizers pointed out that Trump does not favor California, as it is a stronghold for Democrats, and suggested that he might be willing to part with it for the right price, similar to his previous proposal regarding Greenland.

The campaign explained that the choice of California was not arbitrary but based on several factors, including its warm climate, technological advancements, abundant avocado production, and its hosting of Disneyland. Participants in the campaign also proposed that if the state were annexed to Denmark, Disneyland would be renamed “Andersen Land,” in honor of the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.

The initiative has garnered significant attention since its launch, with over 200,000 people engaging with the campaign, reflecting the widespread interest in this satirical idea.

Meanwhile, Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, reiterated his rejection of any discussions about selling the island, emphasizing that Greenland belongs to its people and is not for sale. This statement was a clear indication of Denmark’s refusal of Trump’s proposal.

These developments come amid ongoing debate over Trump’s remarks about his desire to acquire Greenland, which have sparked widespread political and public reactions.
