Rabat Court Summons Moroccan Prime Minister to Appear

The Rabat Court of First Instance has summoned Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch to appear before it today, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in his capacity as the legal representative of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) party. This summons follows a complaint filed by Saeed Tounarti, a party leader, against parliamentarian Yasmine Lamghour, concerning allegations of defamation, slander, and incitement.

The court had previously postponed the trial session for Lamghour and Akhannouch, as neither attended the last hearing. A new date for the session has been set for February 7, 2025. The complaint relates to a short video posted by Lamghour during the electoral campaign, which sparked widespread controversy within the party and led to escalating disputes among its members.

This development reflects a state of chaos and division within the National Rally of Independents party, which some attribute to the random polarization witnessed during the recent elections. Observers are keenly watching what developments will arise from the upcoming sessions in this case that has captured public interest.
