The city of Rabat witnessed a prominent national event with the establishment of the “Saharan Forum for Studies and Parallel Diplomacy,” a unique national platform aimed at unifying the efforts of academics, researchers, and civil society components to enhance scientific and diplomatic advocacy regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue.
During the founding meeting, Mohamed Lamine Rakeb was elected as the president of the forum, along with the election of executive board members representing various regions of the kingdom. The meeting was attended by a select group of researchers and media professionals.
In a press statement, Mohamed Lamine Rakeb confirmed that the idea of establishing the forum came after serious discussions among a group of elites and civil and human rights activists, with the aim of adopting a new strategy to defend the national cause. He added that the forum seeks to support advocacy for the Moroccan Sahara issue and highlight its legitimacy.
This forum represents a practical step towards developing tools to defend the territorial integrity of the kingdom, especially in international forums. It also aims to be a civil and human rights framework that supports the official diplomatic efforts of the kingdom in defending the Moroccan Sahara issue.
The establishment of the forum comes in response to the royal directives emphasizing the importance of involving active national competencies in strengthening parallel diplomacy and defending the territorial integrity of the kingdom. The forum includes comprehensive representation from all regions of Morocco, including the three southern provinces: Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, and Guelmim-Oued Noun, as well as representatives from other regions of Morocco and Moroccans living abroad.
The forum will prioritize defending the autonomy initiative as a realistic and effective political solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, refuting claims promoted by opponents of territorial integrity, and presenting historical and legal evidence proving the connection of the southern provinces to the Kingdom of Morocco.
At the conclusion of this founding meeting, participants sent a telegram of loyalty and allegiance to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, affirming their full mobilization behind His Majesty and their firm determination to continue working to defend Morocco’s unity and national sovereignty, in loyalty to the values and constants of the Moroccan nation.
