National Security and Customs personnel working at Tangier Mediterranean Port successfully thwarted an international drug and psychotropic substances smuggling attempt on Wednesday morning, seizing a large quantity of 19,050 narcotic pharmaceutical pills.
According to initial information, the seized quantity was carefully hidden within special cavities in the cabin of an international transport truck coming from one of the European countries. Security forces, during border surveillance and inspection operations, managed to discover these pills and arrest the driver, a Moroccan national aged 36.
Legal procedures were immediately initiated, with the suspect placed under judicial custody pending investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution. The ongoing investigations aim to uncover all individuals involved in this case and identify potential national and international extensions of this criminal activity.
This operation comes within the framework of intensive and continuous efforts by the General Directorate of National Security in combating international drug and psychotropic substances smuggling, reaffirming the security agencies’ commitment to continuing the fight against illicit drug trafficking.
